DIANE REID (BA, BEd, DUT, MA)
A guide for the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Diane is a vital part of Fredericton's vigorous poetry scene. She raised funds for the University of New Brunswick's Alden Nowlan House, selected and supervised its art and poetry installations, and served on its board. Her home is west of the city on Kelly's Creek, a tributary of Canada's historic St. John River.
TEACHING / STUDENT SERVICES
Region & Grade Level: NB Anglophone West, Grades 6-12
I offer whole-group or one-on-one sessions for students of Journalism, Media Studies, and Canadian Literature including editing; interview skills; book/film reviewing; and how imagery functions in song, film, and advertising. I help students decide how best to tell their stories, show how to take control of punctuation, and teach how to revise with the aim of producing publishable work.
Background: A poet, editor, freelance writer, and writing/reading coach, I reviewed books for the Canadaeast dailies for several years. An English Language Arts specialist by training, I have substitute-taught in New Brunswick schools (1992 to present) and tutored for UNB’s Writing Centre, St. Thomas University’s Writing Centre, and UNB’s Student Accessibility Centre. My public presentations include Guiding Underachievers: Interventions for Student Success (Kaleidoscope Teaching Showcase ’08) and Collaboration in Public Education (McKee Task Force on Mental Health).
